Change: Obama’s Transition Team

The cover of Time Magazine this week has super-imposed a video image of President Elect Barack Obama into a hat, coat, and car that resembles that of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In this cover story, “Change. What It Looks Like,” Karen Tumulty discusses the transfer of power from Republicans to the Democrats. She also reflects that “not since Franklin D. Roosevelt took office in the midst of the Depression has a new President faced a set of challenges quite as formidable as those that await Obama.” She goes on to evaluate Obama’s transition team and cabinet choices. It appears that Obama is moving quickly to put his team in place and has already announced his transition team which includes Valerie Jarrett, Peter Rouse, John Podesta, Rahm Emanuel as his White House Chief of Staff, and Robert Gibbs as Press Secretary. Each individual has an impressive background, but only time will tell if it is a winning team and if it can put into action the changes Obama promised during his campaign: stabilizing the US economy, investing in renewable, innovative energy sources, withdrawal from Iraq, universal health coverage, a shift in taxation, immigration reform.

What do you predict will be the actual changes? When should Obama’s efforts be evaluated – at one year or at the end of his term?

Candidates for president always promise things, that's how they get elected. Most everyone of them though can only deliver on a few. Obviously the main priorities of this administration are to get us out of things, like the economic crisis and Iraq. Thanks to the George Bush administration, trying to get out of holes will be a current theme for this next presidency.there are so many things on Obama's plate, I just hope his eyes aren't bigger than his stomach. Personally, I don't think universal health care is as important as getting us out of the red and out of Iraq. Things like renewable energy though can pump up jobs and stabilize an economy, especially because your taking dependence on foreign oil away.
Also you brought up evaluation of Barrack. The minute he became President elect he was judged. whether or not its fair doesn't matter, its our unalienable right. overall, I think Obama can do some of it, but thats a lot of food on one plate for one administration to eat in eight years.

I think Miles is compleatly right that that he has some big promises to keep or there will be alot of disapointed people. No to say that there wont be people dissapointed no matter what. I think that he will do fine with the people he has chosen and that we will be in cappable hands in 58 days. Hopefully Obama and his team will do the job!
